John Anderson, CPA, is the founder and CEO of 7th Rule Accounting.
John has over 16 years of experience in Public Accounting working across the various areas of the business from auditing to taxation. As a certified auditor, John worked with not-for-profit and for profit firms conducting audits. John’s love of puzzles is what drives him to resolve issues. Each one is unique. In the accounting profession, there is always a puzzle to solve. Clients appreciate John’s investigative abilities from the taxation side as he can look at it through the eyes of an auditor. When John is not working on the accounting business, he focuses on developing technology plans for all organizations and making sure their technology matches their business needs.

John is a frequent speaker at Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountant (MACPA) conferences and other accounting conferences. He has written articles for several CPA magazines such as the CPA Practice Advisor. He is currently a chair on the Michigan Information Technology Task Force. He has also been invited by professor, Robert Opkney at Eastern Michigan University to talk to students who want to enter into the accounting profession.

A Thirty-Year History of Service
On January 1, 2012, 7th Rule Accounting merged with Sylvester & Company. Sylvester & Company was originally established on November 1, 1982 by Michael W. Bush as Michael W. Bush CPA, PC. The firm later became Bush, Hutchinson & Jacobs CPA. When Michael Bush and Deborah Hutchinson moved to Arizona, they left the practice to Susan Jacobs who named the firm Susan Jacobs & Company. Susan ran the firm until January 2003 when she sold the firm to Robert Sylvester who renamed the firm Sylvester & Company.
The combined firm is moving forward under the guidance and leadership of the owners of 7th Rule Accounting P.C. The firm has customers located in Washtenaw County and the surrounding counties of Hillsdale, Livingston, Lenawee, Jackson, Oakland, and Wayne with others located around the United States, in Canada, or in other parts of the world.
